Khatu Shyam Ji — Darshan of the Peacock Crown

Shyam Baba in full shringar — the mor mukut blazing above a crown of diamonds, roses and marigolds heaped high around his radiant face. Jewels, pearls and petals rendered in thick knife strokes until the darshan itself seems to glow.

Khatu Shyam — Barbarik, the grandson of Bhima, who gave his head in charity and was blessed by Krishna to be worshipped in Kalyug. The painting carries his promise: “haare ka sahara” — the refuge of the defeated.
